VIENNA, VIRGINIA – As of September 30th, 2010 there were 22.7 million U.S. veterans, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A survey released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics this past March revealed an unemployment rate of 12.1% in 2011 for the “post-9/11″ veterans, which is significantly higher than the overall U.S. unemployment rate of 8.3%. With the unemployment rate of veterans still on the rise, getting an accurate disability rating is increasingly important since it has a direct impact on the amount of monthly compensation the veteran receives.

The VA Disability Rating system is a very structured process based on the patient’s documented medical condition and his or her response to specific questions; however veterans may not understand why certain questions are being asked during physical exams. Although the VA fully discloses this information in 38 CFR Book C, Schedule for Rating Disabilities and the information is available and easily accessible by everyone on the VA Benefits page (http://www.benefits.va.gov/warms/bookc.asp), the terminology is targeted towards medical professionals and may not always be helpful to veterans. While the Military Transition Assistance Program (TAP) briefing includes the VA Disability Rating process during the course, often times clarity of the explanation varies by instructor. The result is a VA disability rating system that is often a confusing and poorly understood process to many veterans who are separating or retiring from military service.

In an effort to help American heroes, MicroHealth developed a mobile application to make the VA Disability Rating process significantly easier to follow and to understand. The MicroHealth “My VA Disability” mobile app, a user-friendly tool with multiple functions, is designed and targeted specifically for separating and retiring veterans and will help them to better utilize their time with the VA physician maximizing his or her health benefit resources.

Currently, My VA Disability operates on the Android platform, but will be compatible with iOS in future releases. The MicroHealth My VA Disability app may be downloaded completely free of charge on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microhealth.app.myvadiagnosesv2). A second release with more features and enhancements is expected soon.
